Qantas / Destination NSW Partnership – Alan Joyce
This is a landmark partnership for Qantas.
It is the biggest agreement we have ever signed with a state government – and it sees Qantas become the major airline partner for Destination New South Wales.
We’re agreed this $30 million partnership because it makes sense for Australia’s global airline and Australia’s leading tourism state to work together.
New South Wales welcomes more than half of all international visitors to Australia and in 2012 those visitors spent over $6 billion in the state economy. Both visitor numbers and visitor spending are growing.
Qantas plays a major role in supporting that economic contribution.
Sydney is our home and the gateway to Australia for millions of Qantas passengers every year. We fly from Sydney to every corner of Australia, and to every continent on earth.
We promote New South Wales on every one of our flights, through our global sales force and through our advertising campaigns.
We know that tourism creates jobs, drives economic activity and supports small business.
And the partnership we’re announcing today is a powerful new vehicle for growing tourism in New South Wales.
From now, Qantas will be working hand in hand with Destination New South Wales, with a simple goal: to increase visitor numbers and expenditure across the state.
We are combining the marketing expertise of Destination New South Wales with the power of the Qantas brand, the Qantas network and the Qantas global sales force.
We will be working together in the traditional markets of the US and the UK, as well as growth markets of Asia.
And we will collaborate on major one-off events with the potential to boost inbound tourism, such as the British and Irish Lions rugby tour.
This will be a partnership focused on results, with the benefits flowing back to the tourism operators of New South Wales.
Global tourism is more competitive than ever before. And Australia must work harder than ever before to remain a destination of choice.
Partnerships like this one will be vital to our nation’s tourism success.
So I think this is a landmark moment not just for Qantas and Destination New South Wales, but for Australian tourism.
We’re excited about the potential for the next three years – and we’re looking forward to delivering great results for New South Wales.
