Today, Qantas Ambassador Adam Goodes was named Australian of the Year.

Adam has been recognised for his commitment to community programs and for establishing and co-chairing the Goodes-O’Loughlin (GO) Foundation, which works with Indigenous communities.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said he was proud to congratulate Adam on his incredible achievement.

“Adam is an outstanding role model and an excellent choice as Australian of the Year. On behalf of everyone at Qantas, we congratulate him on his extraordinary achievement,” said Mr Joyce.

“Like many Australians, we have been inspired by Adam’s dedication to Indigenous communities and it’s our honour to work with him to promote cultural diversity,” added Mr Joyce.

Adam was named as a Qantas Ambassador in October 2013 and is working with the airline to help increase awareness among Qantas employees and customers of Indigenous issues and culture.

Adam was among the group who recently took part in the delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 aircraft featuring an Indigenous art livery.

Adam will work with Qantas to promote Indigenous Programs through iconic national events such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week. As supporters of the Recognise Campaign, which is working towards a referendum to include Indigenous Australians in the constitution, Qantas and Adam will be working together to help build awareness.
