Qantas today announced Elizabeth Rose as the winner of the Music category in the 2013 Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA 365), which recognises outstanding young Australian artists.
Hundreds of participants entered SOYA 365 for a chance to win the prestigious title as well as $5,000 in cash, $5,000 in Qantas flights and a rare 12-month mentorship opportunity with internationally renowned Australian music producer Lee Groves.
Elizabeth Rose is a talented young Sydney music producer, singer and songwriter who launched her debut EP, Crystallise in 2012, which features Again, a collaboration with UK producer Sinden.
Known for her dreamy electro-pop tunes, Elizabeth has since lent her vocals to Sydney duo Flight Facilities for their infectious disco track I Didn’t Believe, which saw an impressive forty thousand streams in its first hour of release. She has created a remix for New York artist Chairlift’s track Turning and Brisbane artist Georgia Potter’s XO, and is currently collaborating on new music with SOYA finalist and Grammy Award winner Gotye.
In her short career, Elizabeth has received a number of accolades. She was selected as a triple j Next Crop 2012 artist, listed in Radar Radio’s Top 20 Aussie Electronic Artists You Need To Know in 2012 feature and earlier this year was placed in inthemix.com’s prestigious 25 Under 25: The Young Stars leading 2013.
Elizabeth Rose is thrilled to receive a SOYA award that recognises Australian musicians.
“I’m very honoured to be given this award and have my work recognised by such an acclaimed musician,” Elizabeth said.
“Winning this award will help me finance my first overseas trip to New York where I am performing at the CMJ Music Marathon next month, as well as collaborate with inspiring international artists.
Australian music producer Lee Groves selected Elizabeth from an impressive field of entrants.
“I have been aware of Elizabeth’s work for a while and I love her innovative use of melodies & textures.
“The past year has proved pivotal in her progression and winning SOYA will enable the talented producer to take the next step in what will be a rewarding music career.
The runners up in the Music category include Brendan Maclean and The Preatures, both extraordinary artists.
Now in its ninth year, SOYA 365 rewards and encourages the work of a new generation of creative talent, giving young Australians the financial and professional support they need to share their work with the world.
The new SOYA 365 hub is open for submissions with new creative categories closing every month.
