Qantas will introduce changes to its international checked baggage policy next month, moving from a weight system to a piece and weight system.
The changes provide customers with a simplified policy and better alignment with the Qantas domestic checked baggage policy, which changed in June 2011 to a piece and weight-based system.
The piece and weight baggage system is also used by a number of oneworld™ carriers including British Airways and American Airlines.
Last year, over 70 percent of Qantas customers travelling international Economy travelled with one piece of checked baggage.
The new international policy will apply to all tickets issued on or after 2 May 2012 for Qantas international flights and oneworld™ partner flights with a ‘QF’ flight number.
The policy now offers customers the following allowances on Qantas International services with a ‘QF’ flight number effective 2 May 2012:

^Adults travelling with an infant may check in up to three infant items free of charge.
Customers with bags exceeding their checked baggage allowance (except for travel from Japan) can pre-purchase additional baggage allowance at discounted rates online at qantas.com before travel and Qantas Frequent Flyers can pay using points.
