The new way to earn points: so easy, you can do it with your eyes closed.
Qantas Frequent Flyer members can now earn Qantas Points while they sleep using the Qantas Wellbeing app.
Designed to encourage healthy sleep habits, the app, developed by Qantas Health Insurance, incentivises Frequent Flyers by offering Qantas Points to limit screen time before bed, develop regular sleep patterns and better understand healthy sleep practices.
The ‘Sleep Health Challenge’ is the latest feature in the Qantas Wellbeing app that rewards Australians with Qantas Points for developing healthy lifestyle habits. Members can already earn points for keeping active by walking, cycling or swimming and understanding more about their BMI and blood pressure.
How it works:
The app also prompts Frequent Flyers to track how they feel upon waking. By reviewing their Sleep Health Challenge history, users can see how better sleep practices affect their mood.
Users can also earn an additional 20 Qantas Points for taking part in the Qantas Sleep Quiz – a 10 question guide to learning more about maximising your sleep drive, how diet and exercise affects sleep and understanding your body clock.
According to the Sleep Health Foundation, four out of 10 Australian adults experience some form of inadequate sleep[i]. Not getting enough sleep can affect learning and decision making as well as increasing the risk of mental and physical illness.
Olivia Wirth Qantas Loyalty CEO said Qantas Frequent Flyer is the first airline loyalty program to offer points for something as simple as sleep.
“There’s a big opportunity for us as a health insurance provider to promote health and wellbeing among customers and demonstrate the value of preventative health management.
“The Qantas Wellbeing app has been downloaded over 400,000 times and uses Qantas Points to inspire hundreds of thousands of members to lead more active lifestyles. We hope to see the same impact for adopting healthier sleep practices.”
Dr Gemma Paech, Sleep Scientist with The Sleep Health Foundation, said getting enough sleep is essential to a healthy lifestyle.
“Poor sleep is associated with impairments to attention, memory and overall mental and physical health.
“Blue light from phone and computer screens at night can disrupt the production of melatonin – an important sleep hormone that regulates our internal body clock, lets us know when it’s time to sleep and helps us have good quality sleep. Not only this, but looking at a phone before bed and during the night can be stimulating and may evoke an emotional response, making us more alert when we should be asleep, resulting in fragmented sleep across the night.”
Qantas Frequent Flyers taking part in the Sleep Health Challenge will earn up to five points per night in the first month[ii]. After the first month the earn rate reduces to 0.5 points per night for members who are not Qantas Insurance policy holders.
Qantas Frequent Flyers taking advantage of all the Qantas Wellbeing app features have the ability to earn up to 3,406 points per year, with Qantas Insurance policyholders earning up to 20,000 points per year through the app[iii].
You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and be aged 13 years or older to use the app. Conditions apply.
