Crocs, crayfish and community – welcome to Horn Island
Published on 4th March 2016

Catching a ferry across croc infested waters is all in a days work for Hassim who is part of the QantasLink team at Horn Island.

Horn Island, or Ngurupai, sits 30 kilometres north of Cape York and is the gateway to neighbouring Thursday Island and the outer islands of the Torres Strait.

It’s the only island in the region with a runway long enough to land one of QantasLink’s Q400 aircraft.

Hassim and the team make sure everything runs smoothly for the 14 weekly flights that operate from the airport down to Cairns.

Our QantasLink services reunite family and friends and also support the local economy including the daily shipment of live mud crabs!

Watch Hassim and the team in the clip below.
